My History

A cloudy history of my computer(s).

  • Unknown: My Atari 1040ST running Atari’s OS, Whatever the hell it was. Ran on floppies, worked great, I miss it.
  • 1994: My first PC. Windows 3.1 on top of DOS 6.1. It was a 486sx25 with 4MB of Memory and a 240 Megabyte Disk.
  • 1996: I got brave and took my PC to the next level, upgrading it to 8MB of ram and installing Windows 95 via Floppy disks. All 26 of them. At some point I ran out of disk space so I bought a 1.2GB disk. God this thing was massive, and it should be. It cost me $300.
  • 1996: My second PC, I bought a Cyrix 6×86 120+ CPU with 16MB of ram. I installed Win95 on this too, but this time I had a CD. What a great invention. This was an incredible speed boost. At this point I dabbled in some networking using archaic 10 Base2 networking and BNC connectors. Good shit. Slackware Linux was installed on the old box, then removed, then installed, then removed.
  • 1997: I got a laptop. A p120 with 16mb of ram and a 1.2 Gig disk. It had Win98 pre-installed and was intended for school.
  • 1998: I got an AMD K6-2-350. At this point my memory was around 32MB in this particular box, but disk space, how am I supposed to know? All I know is this beast was FAST! And now I have way too many machines, but I networked them with 10 Base T, and holy fuhshizzle! This was amazing speed over the wire! It allowed me to share my dialup internet connection and even share cdroms from other machines. Incredible!
  • 2000: I got an Intel p3-500. It sucked. I got Windows 2000 free from work, so I used it. It was actually decent.
  • 2001: I got an AMD Duron 1ghz. It was speedy. Not to mention the 128MB of ram. Then I upgraded to 256MB of ram. And added a few 13GB Hard Disks.
  • 2003: I got an AMD Athlon 2000+, blows my balls off with it’s blistering speed. Half a gig of ram and the disk space is piling up. I’m at about 400GB total disk.
  • 2003: I upgraded to a gig of ram and never turned back.
  • 2004: I installed linux on my desktop and never turned back.
  • 2004: I bought 4 200GB disks. I’m over a terrabyte now.
  • 2005: I got an AMD Athlon-M 2400+ Laptop with 768MB of ram and a 40 gig disk. It’s good for work.
  • 2005: I got an AMD Athlon X2 3800+ Dual Core CPU with a gig of dual channel ram, and now my disk space is up to about 1.4 Terabytes.
  • 2006: I got a couple of Widescreen LCDs.
  • 2007: I got a Mac Book Pro 15″, 2GB of Ram, 160GB disk. God I love it. I could only love a woman more.
  • 2008: ???

There’s a tonne of holes. I’ll fill some in later.
